Pluspetrol SA announced it will accelerate production at the Bajo del Choique-La Invernada field in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale play, committing $12 billion to reach 100,000 barrels per day of crude and 73,000 barrels of gas over two decades. The move is part of President Javier Milei’s RIGI incentive program, which expands rewards to shale oil wells. Argentina’s Vaca Muerta is one of the world’s largest shale resources, drawing significant foreign investment. Milei’s RIGI initiative aims to speed up development by offering fiscal incentives to operators willing to bring projects online sooner. The privately-owned driller purchased the acreage from Exxon Mobil Corp 18 months ago. It applied to RIGI on Thursday, pledging the $12 billion investment to achieve the stated output targets within about two decades. The Bajo del Choique-La Invernada project is the largest under RIGI to date. Other drillers are also speeding up their Vaca Muerta oil plans under RIGI, but Bajo del Choique-La Invernada is the biggest project yet to seek inclusion.
