South Sudan's Ministry of Petroleum has declined to renew the exploration and production sharing agreement (EPSA) held by Oranto Petroleum for Block B3, following a review of the company's performance over the contract period.

The ministry said Oranto failed to meet key work program obligations, including required seismic surveys and drilling commitments outlined in the agreement. The review also found that the company did not fulfill certain financial obligations tied to the project.

As a result, the government determined that non-renewal of the license was in the country's best interest, citing a broader policy aimed at ensuring responsible resource development and attracting technically capable operators.

Block B3 has now been reopened for new applications, with the ministry inviting interest from international and regional oil and gas companies.

The decision underscores a stricter approach to contract enforcement in South Sudan's upstream sector, as the government seeks to advance exploration activity and improve long-term development outcomes.
