Starbucks is cutting tech roles under new chief technology officer Anand Varadarajan, who joined from Amazon after 19 years, as part of a broader turnaround. In a move to move faster, sharpen focus, and deliver on its most important priorities, the coffee giant is reshaping its technology organization, according to an internal message cited by the Seattle Times. Varadarajan, who came aboard in January, will oversee initiatives ranging from an AI‑powered drink‑ordering assistant to an algorithm that manages mobile order timing. The company has not disclosed how many jobs will be eliminated, but the restructuring follows a broader push under CEO Brian Niccol, who joined in 2024. The Seattle Times reported that the internal message said the company was "making structural changes to move faster, sharpen focus, and ensure we are set up to deliver on our most important priorities." Starbucks also announced it will invest $100 million in a new corporate office in Tennessee that could host up to 2,000 employees.
